Ecuador In Focus At Challenger de Guayaquil It's always a party at the Guayaquil Tenis Club, which hosts the lone ATP Challenger Tour event in Ecuador. The tournament is an integral part of the year-end South American swing, which also features events throughout the region, in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay and Chile. Held for 20 years, the Challenger de Guayaquil has featured a home-grown champion on two occasions - Nicolas Lapentti in both 2007 and 2009. In addition, the tournament has served as a springboard for today's South American stars. Recently, two champions - Francisco Cerundolo (2020) and Alejandro Tabilo (2021 & 2023) - went on to crack the Top 20 of the PIF ATP Rankings.
